This historic estate provides tales of romance, tragedy, financial triumph and ruin. Tour guides welcome guests and share the history of the Castle in the Clouds.

Moultonborough, New Hampshire is home to a spectacular tourist attraction, Castle in the Clouds. Guests have the option of purchasing a castle tour or a pass for the grounds. Castle tours are currently twelve dollars for adults and five dollars for children. Seniors can purchase tickets for nine dollars. Children under the age of six enter for free. Grounds passes can be purchased for five dollars by all, with those guests under six entering for free. The Castle in the Clouds website proves very useful in acquiring pricing and other Castle information. However, only the season ending dates are provided at this time. The season is scheduled to finish at the end of October.

The two mile trip up to the trolley ride requires a drive that will delight daring drivers and children of all ages. The narrow winding road provides an exciting challenge on a narrow single lane road. The ride will definitely appeal to those who love twisting roads and mountain climbs. Drivers are encouraged to stop at several viewing points on the road for observation. The opportunities for pictures and site seeing are frequent.

Guests arrive at the Carriage House often thinking they have finished the journey. In fact the real trip is only beginning. The Carriage House offers travelers hospitality, but it is not the focus of the trip. Guests are encouraged to move to the trolleys that will take them towards the Castle in the Clouds. Most employees and volunteers will stress visiting the Carriage House offerings after finishing the Castle tour.

Arriving at the house, guests might just be expecting a tour of an eccentric museum home that is designed as a castle on a mountain. Tour guides quickly introduce the guests to tales of romance, broken hearts, and stories that will delight ex-wives about triumph in the long term. Those interested in financial lives of the wealthy will hear tales of great gains and great losses that can serve as cautionary tales for today.

The tour continues as a self guided process through the house. Pamphlets are provided to assist in finding the important items to see in the museum and to provide the historical background information. Guests are encouraged to explore the grounds and to take time to admire the views of New Hampshire available from the estate. Chairs are provided to allow people to rest and take in the spectacular mountain scenes.

Visitors are given a choice of returning to the Carriage House by trolley or walking down a path from the Castle. Once back there are a variety of trails available for visitors to walk. The waterfalls are worthy of a walk even after a long day of touring. There are maps available for guests to plan a short walk or a longer hike.

Castle in the Clouds is a great venue to add to your New Hampshire vacation plans.
